Our Story:

My name is Jorge Flores. I was born in Jalisco, Mexico, and when I was three, my family moved to America in search for a better life. We first lived in Chicago, Illinois, where my brothers would have me tag-along with them to play soccer. Thereafter, we transitioned to St. Louis, Missouri, where I started playing on local teams. During my childhood and my teen years, I developed a passion for the sport with hopes of playing Select Soccer. However, my mindset changed my senior year of high school. I believed that my opportunities had been limited because of my family’s financial struggles and convinced myself that I should put my cleats in the closet and sit soccer out my final year of high school. That decision instantly changed my life. Consequently, I missed an opportunity to attain any athletic scholarships for college, and because I struggled academically, I did not have an avenue to pursue school.

Our Story

However, several years later, returned to the sport I once loved and began officiating state-wide soccer tournaments, as well as local club leagues and competitions. During my time officiating, I recognized a problem in soccer: the Pay to Play system. There were kids who could not play the amazing game of soccer because they did not have the means to do so. From there, I had an idea. I started an independent club team, Dream Big FC, with the hope of bridging the socioeconomic gap that was serving as a barrier for so many kids who live in low-income households. Now, the club team is part of a non-profit organization that has helped up dozens of low-socioeconomic status kids in St. Louis have the chance to play soccer despite coming from a challenging socioeconomic status. At Dream Big Foundation Inc., we are trying to give children the chance to play competitive soccer and begin a path where their dreams may come true. Tu familia es mi familia.
